The 2008 Central States Curly Show will be held on September 20, 2008
at the same great location as the 2007 event, near Joplin, MO

In addition to the horse show we will again be featuring the Friday night exhibitors dinner, the stall decorating contest, the prize-packed awards banquet, and are planning to host a clinic following the show in conjunction with our local pony club. Check back for more information- we hope to see you there!

Why are curly horse breed shows important?

For breeders: Breed showing is important to breeders because it offers a unique opportunity for breeding stock, and the produce of farms, to be evaluated on a level playing field with horses of the same breed. Breed shows allow breeders the opportunity to prove their stock, leading to higher sale prices. (see sellers, below)

For riders: Breed showing offers riders and owners the opportunity to network with other curly riders and to ride in an environment where their horse is a peer, not a novelty. For allergic riders, breed shows are the rare opportunity to ride in a competitive environment.

For the public: Curly breed shows do draw some public attendance, but the real PR of curly bred shows are in the long term effects. Well run shows with good awards encourage training and practice during the off season, more off season training means more polished curlies competing and promoting the breed, and more polished horses eventually means more impressive turnouts at breed shows and non-breed specific events.

For our registries: Healthy show circuits strengthen breed's registries. The bulk of associations memberships are usually made up of families, families are drawn to registries based on activities and show programs. More activities = more participants = more registrations.

For buyers and sellers: Curly breed shows offer a unique experience, instead of searching high and wide for a curly, or desperately trying to sell a saddle horse sight unseen across the country, buyers and sellers can use breed shows to network. A seller can show their horse to multiple buyers in one weekend, and buyers can trial as many horses in one day as would usually require several weeks and several hundred dollars in gas or plane tickets.
